The Babeș-Bolyai University promotes and supports the development of multiculturalism, and international students may enrol in programmes taught in numerous languages, the dominant ones being Romanian, Hungarian, German, English and French.

Babeș-Bolyai University
Babeş-Bolyai University (UBB) is currently the largest university in Romania, with around 40,000 students enrolled in its 22 faculties in the 2023-2024 academic year, studying Bachelor's, Master's, PhD and other academic programmes.
Situated at the confluence of Eastern and Western cultures, UBB is a dynamic higher education institution with deep roots in Central Europe and strong international academic ties. Its origins date back to 1581, making it the oldest institution of higher education in Romania.¹
The Faculty
The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Babes-Bolyai University is the country's leading faculty in the field of business and economics, with a diverse network of international collaborations. The Faculty places great emphasis on helping each generation of graduates to acquire the skills and knowledge that will enable them to employ digital technologies to meet the increasing demands of modern businesses.²
The Faculty, through the Department of Business Information Systems, offers an English master's programme, "Business Modelling and Distributed Computing", which is well suited for IS:link students. This master's programme aims to foster a hybrid skills profile that is called the Digital Innovator & Engineer, which is being discussed in European universities as a profile that should be capable of integrating a technological/computational perspective with a conceptual/business analysis perspective.³
Student life
Babes-Bolyai University offers a wide range of opportunities in both academic and extracurricular activities. Various organizations and student-led initiatives are available to enhance the university experience.
The main benefit is the opportunity to network and establish connections. At the faculty level, the main student organization, OSE-UBB, has been involved in various initiatives to promote the image of the faculty and to support its academic and extracurricular activities. OSE can support international students by providing buddy programs, where local students volunteer to serve as mentors for incoming students. OSE can also provide advice and information about the university, campus facilities, academic programs, local culture, and practical matters such as housing, transportation, and medical services.
Campus life
The UBB Faculty of Economics and Business Administration offers a range of amenities on its campus, including a library, cafeterias and student lounges. In close proximity to the campus is the popular Lulius Mall, which features numerous well-known retail stores, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, and entertainment facilities. Fitness centers are also available within or adjacent to the mall. There are designated outdoor areas for recreational activities, such as jogging and cycling tracks, tennis courts, pedestrian walkways, promenades, and relaxation spaces with benches around Gheorgheni Lake. The UBB Faculty of Economics and Business Administration provides accommodation very close to its campus, in student dorms or international students can arrange accommodation on their own.⁴
City of Cluj-Napoca
Cluj-Napoca is the unofficial capital of Transylvania. It is located in the heart of a region known for well-preserved medieval villages recognized by UNESCO. The city is over 2000 years old, yet it remains one of the most vibrant cities in Romania. Many entertainment venues are spread throughout the city, hosting cultural events that attract large international audiences. These events include TIFF (Transylvania International Film Festival), Untold, Electric Castle, and Jazz in the Park.
The city is home to several multinational companies, including NTT Data, E.ON Business Services, Paddy Power Betfair Software Development, Porsche Engineering, Bosch, and Alpha Software. Cluj-Napoca has a long tradition of higher education and is a major academic and innovation hub in Eastern Europe. Approximately 100,000 of the city's population are students.
