University
The University of Zurich was founded in 1833, making it the first university in Europe and the largest university in Switzerland.
It can be found on international rankings such as the Times Higher Education Ranking or the Shanghai Ranking and is therefore one of the leading research universities in Europe.
In addition to research and teaching, the university also offers academic services for business and society.3
University of Zürich
The University conducts research according to the principle of meeting the scientific desiderata and needs of society. The training of the next generation is based on the same principle.4
The University is spread over four locations:5
- University of Zurich Center
- University of Zurich Irchel
- University of Zurich Oerlikon (North)
- University of Zurich Schlieren
Seven faculties comprise the thematic orientation of the university:6

The Faculty
Relevant for IS:link students is the Institute of Computer Science, which was founded in 1970 and is part of the Faculty of Economics. Research is mainly done on topics that will be relevant in the future, such as:
- People-oriented computing
- Computing and Economics
- Analysis of large amounts of data
In the context of information and communication technology, people are always at the center of research efforts. For this reason, the faculty focuses on human-centered computer science.7
In addition, there is the Fachverein der Informatik-Studierenden, which not only organizes events and barbecue parties, but also represents an interface to the professional world.8

Student life
At the Campus there are numerous student organizations and offers within the range culture, sport, religion, environment and politics, which cover a large number of interests.9
Campus life
The University of Zurich does not offer accommodation or student residences managed by the university. Various independent institutions are available for this purpose, but they are connected to the University.10
Sports activities are made possible by the Academic Sports Association (ASVZ). Thus, more than 120 sports are available, such as aikido, badminton, archery and boxing.11
City of Zürich
Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zurich. It is located in central Switzerland at the northwest tip of Lake Zurich.12
Thanks to its good infrastructure and well-developed public transportation network, getting around is very easy.13
There are a large number of museums and art galleries in the city, including the Swiss National Museum and the Kunsthaus. Zurich is also home to one of the most important theaters in the German-speaking world.14
Furthermore, excursions and walks can be taken along the many lakes in the Zurich region (such as Katzensee).15
