University
The University of Macedonia is the second and "youngest" university in the city of Thessaloniki and specialises in economics and social sciences. It was founded by the Greek State under Presidential Decree in 1990.
Today more than 12,000 students study at the University of Macedonia in the fields of economics, administration, social sciences and politics.4

The vision of the University of Macedonia is to provide excellent education, to promote the progress of science in the broader spectrum of economic and social sciences and the arts, and to advance education and culture in a broader perspective by striving for excellence in a socially sensitive and inclusive manner.5
The Faculty
Originally, the Graduate School of Industrial Studies had two faculties (economics and business administration). Today the University of Macedonia has four departments with a total of eight faculties:6

Campus life
Located at 156 Egnatia Street, the University of Macedonia consists of a complex of buildings with a total area of about 40,000 square metres, comprising amphitheatres, teaching and seminar rooms, offices and the administrative departments, a restaurant (open throughout the academic year), a library, a basketball court, a sports hall and a bookshop; a childcare centre will soon be operational. There are also two guest rooms which can accommodate 4-8 people (mostly official visitors).
The University has recently added a main hall where cultural events of the city will also take place.7
