City of Poza Rica
Poza Rica is one of the largest and most populous cities in the Mexican state of Veracruz.
The city was founded in 1951 and is particularly important for the oil industry from an industrial point of view and due to its high raw material deposits. This makes the city the most important industrial and commercial centre of the state.
Poza Rica is located near the Costa Esmeralda, the northern beaches of Veracruz, such as Tecolutla, Tuxpan, Cazones and Playa Esmeralda. The UNESCO World Heritage Site El Tajin is 15 kilometres away. There is a high viewpoint called "El cerro del abuelo" from which you can see the whole city and its "quemadores", large petroleum burners that were used to light the city in the early years. Some of them have been preserved until today.7
Further information:
- Currency: Mexican peso
- Climate: The large differences in altitude within the state mean that the climate can vary greatly from place to place. It ranges from cold, snow-covered mountain peaks to hot, humid tropical areas along the coast.
