University

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) was founded in 1957.
More than 30,000 students study at UNLV, divided into approximately 25,000 Bachelor's students and over 4,000 Master's students.

University of Nevada

At UNLV there are 16 different colleges/schools. These include, for example:

  • Lee Business School
  • School of Dental Medicine
  • College of Education
  • Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering
  • College of Fine Arts
  • School of Integrated Health Sciences

The Faculty

It is important for IS:link students to know that this programme is a programming internship. Therefore the following information might be relevant:

The UNLV invites students from engineering and related fields to apply for internships. These internships are optional in the fields of computer science, computer engineering, civil engineering, transport and infrastructure systems, concrete materials and infrastructure, and mathematics and statistics.

Students selected for one of the internships work in multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams, consisting of current students of the faculty and graduates (Master and Ph.D.). Most of the projects require the use of modern facilities and technologies such as the CEEC Concrete Laboratory, the National Supercomputing Centre for Energy and Environment of UNLV, driving simulators, Biopac and real-time data acquisition systems.

Trainees are expected to work in the laboratories at least eight hours a day, five days a week.

Nevada is a state in the western United States of America and is surrounded by California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and Arizona.

Las Vegas is the largest city in the state of Nevada and is best known for its many casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. The city is famous for its casino hotels and related entertainment and is the self-proclaimed "entertainment capital of the world". The gambling industry therefore accounts for the largest part of the city's economic turnover.

Popular excursion destinations are for example the Hoover Dam or the Red Rock Canyon, which is only a few kilometres away. 6
