University

The University of Ostrava (UO), founded in 1991, has a total of almost 9,000 students from six faculties.3 The UO aims to create favourable conditions for international cooperation and a friendly environment for foreign academics and students.4

Due to the relatively small number of students, there is a rather family environment, which allows for more individual attention and flexible approaches to students' needs.5

University of Ostrava

The following six faculties exist at the UO:

  • Faculty of Social Studies
  • Faculty of Fine Arts and Music
  • Faculty of Art
  • Faculty of Medicine
  • Faculty of Education
  • Faculty of Science

The Institute for Research and Applications of Fuzzy Modeling is also involved.

The UO attaches importance to the active creation of conditions and opportunities for the intensive development and sustainability of promising scientific teams in order to enjoy national and international recognition. Furthermore, the university sees the need to promote creative areas in order to be able to solve important social problems.6

The Faculty

The faculty relevant for IS:link guest students is the Faculty of Social Science. The faculty has seven departments. For study abroad, the Department of Informatics and Computers will be the most important faculty.7

The research of the Department of Informatics and Computers focuses on soft computing. The research activities can be divided into the following four areas:8

  • Intelligent systems and algorithms
  • Application of fuzzy approaches for the analysis, description, prediction and control systems
  • Adaptive differential evolution algorithms and their applications
  • Modeling of operating processes
